Start and Finish Line on N. Gillis Rd.
Race on E. Sprague Ave. between University Rd. and Bowdish Rd.
The Bed Races will return for the second year, prior to the Hearts of Gold parade. This Lions Club fundraiser will be a crowd pleaser and bring in laughs as decorated beds-on-wheels and costumed teams of five scramble to the finish line.
One member, dressed in pajamas, will ride while the four other team members, dressed in themed costumes push or pull the bed using sheer manpower. The race course spans 1000 feet; team members will push their twin-size bed from the starting line on N. Gillis Rd. and race down E. Sprague Ave. to N. Moffit Rd. Here, three team members will perform a rotational fire drill while the other two switch pajamas before they all turn around and race back to the starting line.
Staging will be on N. Gillis Rd. at the parking lot at 5:30 p.m., rules and heats will be announced 10 minutes prior to the start of the race.
After the race winners will be announced in the categories of Overall Winner, Best Bed Design and Best Team Spirit.
Proceeds from this Lions Club event will go toward bringing senses alive in a sensory garden in Spokane Valley or Liberty Lake, as well as Lion initiatives for sight and hearing prevention, health and diabetes education, and homelessness.
